Welcome to our blog about life in a small town in New England where we are renovating an old farm house, enjoying having our father-in-law here during the summer, volunteering with the local fire department, working with the town, running a small alternative energy biz, and are owned by our white shepherd, a sassy kitty, Ody Parrot, chickens!

Carnaval de Quebec
Finally Paul forwarded pics from the boy's boondoggle in Quebec City.
That looks like a beautiful place, Shannon... COLD, but very pretty. I am so sorry to hear about your friends' chickens... I've only had one episode with weasels- I lost a sweet little banty hen and rooster I had raised from chicks, and that was years ago. The biggest predator problems we have now are hawks and racoons. We lock all of our chickens up at night, so a racoon couldn't get in. But a weasel can slither in very tight spaces, so they are definitely a worry. I have heard of people having success with this thing called a "Nite Guard". You may want to check it out, since your chickens are far away from your house. Here is the link- http://www.niteguard.com/ Let me know if you decide to get one of these; I'm thinking about getting one or two myself to keep deer out of our garden- they destroyed it last year! Good luck, and I hope to not hear of any more attacks!
